WEDDED Wednesdays: The Gills' Story

Welcome to "WEDDED Wednesdays." Each week we share our friends' stories of love and marriage with you! Real LOVE stories. This week - Meet the GILLS!

THE GILLS' STORY

How long have you been married?

We have been married for a year and a half now.

How did you meet?

Chavis and I met at church. We were teenagers when we first met. At the time neither one of us was really looking at the other. I didn't like him for a long time, LOL.

In college we started talking on a more intimate level, but that didn't last too long. Shortly after that I didn't like him...again. It wasn't until the summer before my 21st birthday that we really took an interest in each other." - Camielle

How long did you date?

"We dated for two years and then we were engaged for another year. So we were together for three years before we got married.

In that dating time, prior to engagement, we almost didn't make it. For a while we were fighting all the time, like we hated each other. It was a real struggle for a long time. We were in counseling almost every week.

At one point, I gave Chavis an ultimatum. I told him that he had three days to decide if I am the girl for him. See, at this point we had been together 11 months and he didn't know if he wanted to marry me. Well, I wasn't about to waste time with someone who didn't know what they wanted.

In the end it all worked out. I would say he chose wisely, LOL." -Camielle

How would you describe your wedding?

"We had a wonderful wedding. I mean really nice, beautiful, and Expensive, LOL. It was a really extravagant event that I would NEVER do again, LOL. Seriously, it was such a task from beginning to end.

We had a good time; so many family and friends from all over came into town to be a part of our union.

We had 400 guests at the ceremony, 235 guests at the reception and we live streamed our wedding and 1,000 people tuned in to watch our wedding online. It was wonderful but I'm not doing that again, LOL." -Camielle

Marriage Mission Statement:

"I don't think we have a mission statement but here is something my parents always say, 'If two people want to be married, and want to be married to each other, they can be married.'" -Camielle

Best Advice you received before marriage:

"My husband says: Happy Wife, Happy Life. We both agree that you should keep people out of your personal business. I don't mean someone who you are seeking counsel from; I'm talking about family and friends. Don't vent about your marriage to them." - Camielle

Favorite activity to do together:

We absolutely love going to the movies, it's "our thing." We also love just hanging out on the couch, watching movies, shows, etc...and Eating, lol!

Advice for engaged couples:

It is really important that you guys have an active prayer and Bible reading life. If you start the process early, praying together as a married couple will be very easy. Also you need another couple as a mentor, or example, to seek wise counsel from. And always and forever have open lines of communication. Last but not least - HAVE FUN!
